Tesla Inc has announced a recall of 3,470 Model Y vehicles in the United States due to safety concerns related to the bolts securing the second-row seatback frames. The electric car manufacturer issued the recall after identifying an issue that could potentially lead to a reduction in seat belt system performance, increasing the risk of injury during a crash. The recall applies to all affected Model Y vehicles manufactured between 2022 and 2023, including those produced in Fremont, California, from September 2021 to January 2022.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) raised the alarm over a loose seat frame bolt that could compromise seat belt system performance. Tesla confirmed that while no injuries or fatalities have been linked to the issue, five warranty claims made since December may be related to the problem. The automaker has pledged to rectify the issue by inspecting and tightening bolts securing second-row driver-side and passenger-side seat back frames to the lower seat frames.

Tesla’s swift action to rectify the issue underscores the company’s commitment to safety. The recall is expected to begin on March 25th, and affected owners will be notified to bring their vehicles in for an inspection, which will be carried out free of charge. If necessary, Tesla will make any required repairs to the vehicle.

In December, Tesla implemented improved process controls, including better training and supervision, to ensure that bolts are tightened to specifications, following similar problems. The electric vehicle manufacturer’s quick response to the problem has been lauded by industry experts. The recall serves as a reminder to all electric vehicle owners to remain vigilant and informed about potential issues with their vehicles.

The recall highlights the importance of prompt action by manufacturers when issues are identified and the need for regular vehicle maintenance. Tesla’s quick response to the problem demonstrates the company’s dedication to ensuring the safety of its customers.
